Fire Consumes House, Truck, In Oversized Load Move Gone Wrong

Louisiana firefighters are investigating an oversized load move that ended in a serious property-damaging blaze yesterday afternoon.

The incident was reported around 2:40 p.m. on Monday, August 12, on Old Spanish Trail Road in Scott, Louisiana.

When firefighters responded to the scene, they found a house and the semi truck that was hauling it both engulfed in flames, with live power lines arcing on the metal roof of the house.

Firefighters were able to put out the truck fire quickly but say that they had to wait for the power company to disconnect power before continuing to fight the fire consuming the house.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters say that their initial investigation indicates that the truck driver attempted to maneuver around a tree on his right, which then caused the roof of the house to make contact with the power lines. The electrical current caused the truck’s tires to catch fire, and the fire then spread to the truck and house. The Scott Fire Department is still investigating the incident.

KATC reports that the oversized load route was approved and that Louisiana State Police were escorting the load.

The house was so badly damaged by the fire that it was scheduled to be demolished on Tuesday morning.
